The Jimmy Fund
How Your PMC Donation Fuels The Fight Against Cancer
Since 1980, the PMC has raised $270 Million for cancer research and treatment at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. The majority of this money is considered.....
unrestricted funds.

Unrestricted funds are flexible, to be used any where within the Dana Farber. For the past ten years, the PMC has been generating nearly one-half of the Jimmy Fund's annual revenue.

Of the millions of dollars raised annually by the riders of the PMC, 100%, every penny that is raised by the riders, goes directly to the Jimmy Fund. No other charity in the country can boast such and accomplishment.

Examples of how the unrestricted money raised by the PMC has affected research and treatment at the Dana Farber are.......

- funding early stages of research that later can result in more funding from federal agencies such as the National Cancer Institute
(the Dana Farber is the 2nd highest recipient of NCI grant funding)

- helps fill the gap for investigators and researchers who are in-between grants to continue their work, rather than shut down and take their laboratory's apart.

- purchasing of powerful, new technologies to keep laboratory's equipped with state of the art equipment

- funding of fellowship programs that attract the very best physicians and researchers to the Dana Farber.

- provides direct financial aid to more than 1,200 patients and their family's to help meet everyday expenses like mortgages, utility bills, etc.

All this and much more helps contribute to the rising cure rates of many cancers including Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). In 1970, children under 20 that suffered from ALL had a 5 year survival rate of 61%. Today, the survival rate is 80%.
