The Jimmy Fund
For over 60 years, the Jimmy Fund has raised over $450 Million for cancer research and treatment from over 300 fundraising events.

The Jimmy Fund story began in 1948 when a national radio broadcast of the Ralph Edwards "Truth or Consequences" game show held a fundraiser to buy a TV set for a young cancer patient of Dr. Farber to watch his favorite baseball team, the Boston Braves.

The radio-a-thon was so successful, not only did they buy the TV, there was money to make the first donation to a new fundraising organization for the Children's Cancer Center, later the Dana Farber.

Dr. Farber always called his patient's his little "Jimmy's and Jane's". This one particular Jimmy had remained anonymous after his successful cancer treatment until 1998.  Einor Gustafson, a famer and truck driver from Maine, returned to the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber to celebrate the Jimmy Fund's 50th anniversary.

His successful battle with cancer has and will continue to be an inspiration to thousands of Jimmy Fund supporters and cancer patients. In the photo left is Einor Gustafson and myself at the opening ceremony's for the 1998 PMC.
