Seattle, Washington is my starting point for my cross country ride. Arriving in Seattle on Weds, June 8th, I will assemble and test out my bike and gear. On Thursday, I plan to visit the Fishermans Memorial in North Seattle. I visit it because I know a man that captained a cod fishing vessel, the Katmai, that sank a few years ago. The captain's name is Joe Blake and he sold me and my family several cars at Heb Chambers Toyota in Auburn, MA. And since I like the Discovery Channel program, " The Deadlist Catch", I want to pay my respects to all the men lost at sea. On Friday morning, at 6am, I will ride to the Myrtle Edwards Park Beach to perform the customary dip on my rear wheel into the Pacific Ocean. I also plan to collect a few small vials of seawater and sand to carry with me to the Atlantic Ocean where I conclude my cross country adventure in Provincetown and complete my 29th Pan Mass Challenge.
Day 1
I will ride to the Space Needle in Seattle, have a few pictures and some video taken before I depart. I will be riding southeast to Maple Valley and Summit and then finish my day at the Silver Springs Campground in Enumclaw, WA, at total of 85 miles.
Day 2
Todays miles, 63, will bring me over the first of my mountain climbs, Chinook Pass. I will end my days ride in Yakima.
Day 3
The route will level off a little bit today as I ride 82 miles to Kennewick
Day 4
Not labelled on the map, my next stop is Dayton, WA. Here the hills should be a little steeper for this 66 mile part of the route
Day 5
The final day before my first scheduled day off the bike is in Clarkston, WA. Clarkston was named after William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expidition of 1805. When I cross the Clearwater River, I will enter Lewiston, Idaho, named for Meriwether Lewis. Todays ride is 58 mile long . So far, I should have ridden 343 miles.
